Descriptif

Very interesting icon, probably greek, dated 1800 inside the icon.

Without digression, the icon depicts only Saint George portrayed mounted a horse (often white but here grey) and spearing a dragon. Saint George character he's one of the most prominent military saints, venerated by all orthodox but too by catholic and anglican churches.

Greek martyr at the greek Palestine period (born circa 280 AD), Saint George is both honored by greek and russian people. His victory against the dragon in the tale of Saint George universally represents the victory of the Good on Evil.

Here, the drawing of the Saint and horse is especially mastered, colors are contrasted and the composition is centered on the essential in order to give more spiritual impact.

Some minor losses, good general condition and well framed in a old wooden handcarved frame (circa 18th century) and red velvet.
