Rare color mezzotint version engraved in 1787 by the british engraver Valentine Green after the masterwork of the famous Maria Cosway, her striking self-portrait she painted representing herself showing her arms crossed.

Maria Hadfield Cosway was a celebrity of the end of the 18th century.
She was famous as a talented artist and the fashionable Richard Cosway’s wife but also for her great beauty and passion she’s inspired to Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States she met in 1786 although she was married to Cosway.
