Descriptif
Magnificent study of a lioness drinking water from the hand of most famous, talented and valued belgian painter of animals.
More unexpected inside his artistic corpus, often componed of spectacular paintings of european domestic animals herds, this study of a savage and exotic animal like this lioness.
His drawing line is precise, mastered ; the shape of the animal and water given by the warm ochre ink.
As in the Rosa Bonheur’s painting, the Verboeckhoven’s lioness is not terrific but rather charming because thirsty and therefore vulnerable.
Signed at he bottom with the «Succession Verboeckhoven » stamp and nicely framed.
