An important retrospective dedicated to Sonia Delaunay work and showing her gouaches for textile design projects has finished at MaM (Museum of modern art of Paris) the 22 feb. 2015.
Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) was a main and very important french artist of twentieth century which works gets an high value.
 
This superb original gouache on paper has been on the back hand signed and certified by her son, Charles Delaunay, as by the hand of Sonia Delaunay.
It belongs to her artistic works for textile design.
 
Probably it represents beautiful surrealist tulips painted with stunning colors like blue and green and addition of red for suggesting the lines.
Far away the tasteless floral laborious compositions of the modern era.
The origin of this design is too very intesting.
 
We know this gouache has been created for a cloth for Robert Perrier (1898-1987), an important french haute couture supplier. It has been numbered 352 and XIVA by Sonia Delaunay with the certificate of her Sonia Delaunay’s son on the back of the gouache and the Robert Perrier’s collection stamp.
About this art collector for whom Sonia Delaunay has worked on textile design project, we’ll quote Wikipédia : « Robert Charles Perrier (July 1, 1898 to April 19, 1987) was a French haute couture textile supplier, songwriter, socialite and art collector.
 
His vintage silks rank among the world’s most coveted luxury fabrics, including exclusivities created for Coco Chanel, Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, now exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Musée de la Mode et du Textile and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
 
Perrier is further credited in history for having introduced synthetic fabrics to French haute couture, a major novelty at the time.
In addition, his family’s private artistic salon, dubbed R-26, was a bohemian gathering place for many creative luminaries of the 1930s to 1960s, including singer Josephine Baker, architect Le Corbusier and musician Django Reinhardt.
He was the husband of lyricist Madeleine (Brault) Perrier and the father of journalist Marie-Jacques Perrier. »
 
Some minor scratches, colour loss, scratches in the margins.
Comes in an elegant frame in american oak with a « marie-louise ».
